A neutral, independently verified directory of current NZ charity lotteries and major fundraising raffles. Not exhaustive, not an endorsement — just what we've checked, and when.
See verified lotteries Get new lottery alertsTo be listed, a lottery or raffle must meet all five of these:
Lotteries that miss any of the five aren't listed, regardless of size or ad spend. Short and trustworthy beats long and unverifiable.
For each listing, we read the organiser's own terms in full, cross-check the charity on the Charities Register, record the published DIA licence number, sense-check the prize pool against DIA's 20% rule where the figures are public, and log the date as "last verified" on every listing.
DIA publishes no public register of licence numbers, so our check confirms a number has been published in the operator's own terms — not that we've matched it against a government database, since none exists. The 20% check is a sense-check on published figures, not an audit. Where something doesn't add up, we say so rather than guess.

Now on its 165th lottery — one of the longest continuously-run charity lotteries in NZ. This listing supersedes Lottery No. 164, which closed on 24 September and is listed under Recently closed. First prize is a fully furnished Jennian home at 11 Korora Crescent, Ōmokoroa. $10,000 early-buy prize for orders by 16 October. Authorised purpose: heart research, education, prevention and care. Draw at Heart Foundation, 9 Kalmia Street, Ellerslie; results published in the Sunday Star Times.
SPCA’s second lottery, on sale since 25 September after its first sold out. 5,000 more tickets than Lottery No. 1. Early bird prize for tickets bought before 20 October, drawn 22 October. Draws at SPCA Hobsonville Centre, Auckland, by blind selection under independent supervision; results on spca.nz, in the Sunday Star-Times and emailed to all ticket holders. Published cancellation policy includes a full refund. One gap: the published terms list the DIA licence number as “TBA”, so we haven’t been able to sight it yet. Lottery No. 1 ran under LT090000934.
Northern Rescue Helicopter Ltd (NRHL) is a joint-venture operating company formed by Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (already listed separately in this directory for its own Dodge Charger raffle) and Northland Emergency Services Trust, to jointly run air ambulance services across Northland, Auckland and the Coromandel. It's a distinct, separately registered charity, not a duplicate of the existing listing — the two operate together but fundraise under their own names. Draw by blind selection under independent witness (Gambling Act Rule 6(14)) at Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club, Whitianga; results in the NZ Herald, website and social media, and every ticket holder individually emailed. Published cancellation policy includes a full refund guarantee.
A second, simultaneous lottery from Northern Rescue, running alongside the Extreme Lottery above. Smaller ticket pool (4,000 vs 15,000) and a car prize rather than a package. This one clears the 20% prize-value rule exactly at the minimum, rather than comfortably above it like most listings in this directory — still a pass, just the tightest margin we've seen from this charity. Draw at the Helicopter Base, Ardmore Airport, under independent witness (Gambling Act Rule 6(14)); results published in the NZ Herald, website and social media.
Funds go to the operating costs of the Eastland Rescue Helicopter, based at Gisborne Airport. Drawn online at 6.10pm on 18 November at the Trust’s base. Results in the Gisborne Herald, on the Trust’s social media and by email to all ticket holders by 1 December. Nearly half of potential ticket income goes back out as the prize, the most generous ratio in this directory.
Raising money for a fit-for-purpose gymnastics facility and equipment. Drawn online at 7.30pm on 11 December at the Academy, 6 Otaki Street, Dunedin. Results in the Otago Daily Times, on the Academy’s website and social media, and by email to all ticket holders on 15 December. The ticket count looks to have been set so the prize just clears the 20% rule.
Net proceeds go to refreshing the school cafeteria at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School, Wellington. Drawn at about 7.30pm on 30 October at the Toi Marsden Gala Evening by the Karori Community Constable. Results in The Post on 4 November and at marsdenartshow.co.nz/raffle. Bonus prizes include a year of comprehensive car insurance and a defensive driving course. Full refund if cancelled.
Prizes: $125,000 cash first prize; two Apple packages (iPhone, MacBook and AirPods) or $6,000 cash each; a multi-ticket buyer prize of a Samoan holiday for two or $9,500 cash; and a $6,000 cash auto-buyer prize. Drawn at the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre on 2 December under Police supervision; results published 6 December at coastguard.nz. Every ticket helps keep Coastguard’s 2,000+ volunteers rescue-ready.
Smaller licensed raffles that are open now and sell tickets online. Each has a DIA Class 3 licence, which means prizes worth more than $5,000. We’ve confirmed the basics on the organiser’s own page, but we haven’t run our full five-point check on these.
Checked 8 October 2026. Know one we’ve missed? Tell us.
Verified against the same five criteria at the time they were open. Kept here for a short period after their draw for transparency, then archived.
Superseded by Lottery No. 165, now listed under Current. Early-buy prize of $10,000 won by ticket 272300 (Christchurch). Main draw scheduled for 1 October; we haven't yet sighted the main prize results, which Heart Foundation publishes on its results page and in the Sunday Star Times.
Drawn on 7 October under Police supervision. Winning first-prize ticket: 18040. Auto-buyer $10,000 cash prize: ticket 19811. Founders promotion (Fijian holiday): ticket 15336. Results as published by Coastguard at coastguard.nz. Coastguard’s next lottery, No. 129, is now on sale.
Winner confirmed: Kenneth Garcia, from Christchurch. NZDA is New Zealand's national recreational hunting body, established 1937, with 48 branches and 12,000+ members — an Incorporated Society, which satisfies the "society with an authorised purpose" route to a Class 3 licence without needing separate Charities Act registration. This was NZDA's 3rd lottery.
Tickets were on sale from 20 May to 13 August 2026. The motorhome was used by Barrie “Baz” Coleman on his “Saving Butts, Sinking Putts” journey to play every golf course in New Zealand, raising funds and awareness for mental health. Other prizes: a signed Tri Nations 2026 squad jumper ($4,444), a $500 Top 10 Holiday Park voucher and a $100 Briscoes voucher. Drawn through the vega.works raffle module under an independent witness (Gambling Act Rule 6(14)). The terms say results would be published on the Diamond Charitable Trust and Mitey websites on 19 August; we haven’t sighted the winner announcement.
Tickets were on sale from 28 March to 27 June 2026. Drawn at the Grocery Charity Ball at Shed 10, Auckland, using GalaBid’s random number generator under JP supervision and an independent witness (Gambling Act Rule 6(14)). Winner published on bloodcancer.org.nz: Rajeev Prasad. The results page shows the licence number where the winning ticket number would normally be, so we haven’t sighted the ticket number. Funds support Blood Cancer NZ’s work with patients and their families. Published cancellation policy includes a full refund.
SPCA's first-ever lottery, sold out. Winners published on spca.nz: 1st prize ticket 10094 (Auckland), 2nd prize ticket 15603 (Hastings), 3rd prize ticket 13852 (Auckland). Lottery No. 2 is now on sale and listed under Current.
Cure Kids' first-ever lottery. Winners published on curekids.org.nz: 1st prize ticket 13785 (Hamilton), 2nd prize ticket 14973 (Christchurch), 3rd prize ticket 10371 (Auckland).
Street Smart's first-ever lottery, funding hands-on driver education for young New Zealanders. Draw supervised under Gambling Act Rule 6(14) at Hampton Downs Motor Sport Park. One field we couldn't confirm: a Charities Register number for the Trust wasn't locatable at time of check — noted here rather than assumed.
Superseded by Lotteries No. 164 and 165. One of the longest continuously-run charity lotteries in NZ.
Drawn on 19 August 2026 under Police supervision. Winning first-prize ticket: 15310, sold in Dargaville (results as published by Coastguard at coastguard.nz).
Winner confirmed: Adam, from Christchurch, holding ticket #3781, won the $315,000 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. Their 19th lottery, an established, repeat-run fundraiser.
Lotteries previously listed here that, to our understanding, did not proceed successfully — whether through insufficient ticket sales, cancellation, or another outcome short of a normal draw. We keep a listing here rather than deleting it, so the record stays honest rather than quietly disappearing.
Previously listed under Current, this raffle in support of Reigning Downs Hauora Centre (Invercargill) has been removed from our verified listings. Update: a ticket holder has confirmed to us they received a direct email from the organiser stating the raffle will not proceed. We haven't independently sighted a public cancellation notice ourselves, so this is reported as a ticket holder's account rather than something we've verified through our own checks. The published terms state a refund is owed if the raffle doesn't go ahead — we're watching to confirm that refunds are actually being processed, and will update this listing once we know more.
This list is intentionally short at launch. Any organisation not listed here simply hasn't been reviewed yet — it isn't a signal that a lottery is untrustworthy. Draw numbers, exact closing dates, and ticket pricing shown above are a snapshot as at the "last verified" date on each card and may have moved on since.
We'll only email you when a new lottery clears our five criteria and joins this directory — no spam, no on-selling your details, unsubscribe any time.
Listing is free, and being listed doesn't mean using Swell's own platform. Send us the essentials and we'll review it against our five criteria.
Please include: charity name, Charities Register number, campaign/lottery name, link to your official terms and conditions, DIA licence number (if Class 3), and draw date.
Email a submissionSwell exists to help New Zealand charities raise more, not just our own — this directory includes other organisations' lotteries too.
"Independently verified" means we checked what's published against our five criteria — it is not an official DIA endorsement, and it is not Swell vouching for a charity's cause or fundraising performance. "Last verified" is only ever updated after an actual re-check, never on a schedule alone.
